The Ten Commandments were written by god for the people whom Moses had lead from the corrupt Pharaohs of Egypt. They were given to Moses to pass down to the people. These were the Commandments, crudely translated.
The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17 NKJV) |
| 1 | “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me. |
| 2 | “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments. |
| 3 | “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. |
| 4 | “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. |
| 5 | “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. |
| 6 | “You shall not murder. |
| 7 | “You shall not commit adultery. |
| 8 | “You shall not steal. |
| 9 | “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. |
| 10 | “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.”
Now that you have read these. Here is a translation, or at least a translation from what I have seen throughout history as well as a small view point from me which will be in Italics.
| | 1 | You shall have no other god before me and you shall condemn all those who do not believe in me. Notice in the original the word "BEFORE" meaning that you can have no other god higher than him. So remind me why, it is, we can have no other gods/goddesses as long as "He" he the highest in out mind and hearts?
| | 2 | "I am a jealous God." You shall not worship any image other than my own. You shall love only me as your god and I shall grant mercy to those who believe in only me. "For I, your Lord, am a jealous God." Ah. Answer To my first question I suppose. Ask and you shall receive. Now why would a God need be jealous? Is that not a HUMAN emotion?
| | 3 | Do not curse the Lord's name. If you do, you shall not be forgiven as easily as the others around you shall. Because God shall grant you with many tasks and shall give you many hardships but you must still keep his name on your tongue in love and devotion.
| | 4 | On the seventh day of the week, none shall work and all shall rest. It is the day that the Lord Blessed and so none shall work upon this day, to keep it holy. That means, if you really don't want to, you don't have to go to church. You can sit at home in front of the TV, rest and watch Sunday Football.
| | 5 | The Lord has given you the Earth so honor your Mother and Father so that you may live long; if you dont you shall be judged justly. Even if they abandon you, beat you, try to kill you, neglect you, you must honor them or you shall be guilty in the eyes of God?
| | 6 | Do not murder, unless it is in my name. For if you murder in my name (Crusades) then you shall be rewarded!
| | 7 | You shall not commit adultery it is in my will. If you think it is in my will your adultery shall be forgiven.
| | 8 | Do not steal, unless it is from those who do not worship me. If they worship another, other then myself, all of their belongings are as good as yours.
| | 9 | Speak not a lie against anyone. Self explanatory.Thou Shall Not Lie.
| | 10 | You shall not want anything that is not yours. I am a Jealous God but you may not be a Jealous Human. Because I am jealous you shall not be.
|
Now you know what they seem to misplace whenever they tell you the commandments? And this is the truth, not just a translation from my point of view.
If you break any commandment it is viewed the same. Weather you lie or kill someone they are held in the same ranking, because you broke His law.
Now that does not seem even close to fair. But what it life is fair anyways? And if this God is so forgiving then should he not forgive us if we do find ourselves in the clutches of the devil? By the way, did you know that "Devil" comes from the word "Devi" which is an Indian word meaning "God"? Or how about that "Lucifer" translated means "Bringer Of Light"? Yeah, they don't tend to teach much of that either.
This shall end my thoughts on this subject for the time being.
